Job Summary
You will play a key role in establishing computational drug design and drug property prediction approaches to augment our drug discovery efforts. In addition, you will be responsible for implementing data science driven approaches to expedite both drug discovery and development activities at our company. This position requires a strategic thinker with strong leadership skills and a deep understanding of both drug discover and data sciences with a proven track record in the biotech industry.
Key responsibilities
Computational Drug Design
Build & evolve a drug design platform by participating in the setup of the infrastructures (cloud, on-prem, workflows, pipelines)
Establish a small, high-impact team (internal/external) while collaborating daily with medicinal chemistry, biology and DMPK.
Scientific ownership of structure based and ligand based approaches (virtual screening, FEP/MD, etc…)
Automate data consumption by developing tools that will translate data into new designs
Champion novel approaches by refining bespoke scoring functions and new tools that will drive impact in new modalities.
Translate data into decisions by conveying complex concepts in an actionable manner for project teams, partners and the management team.
Extend our reach by steering external CRO and academic collaborations to stretch budget and bandwidth.
Data Sciences
Build & evolve our data science platform with the aim of automating and expediting business processes and come to key insights and data-driven decisions both in discovery and development projects.
Work closely with cross-functional teams, including biology, chemistry, and clinical development, to integrate data science into the drug discovery process.
Oversee the analysis of large datasets to identify patterns and insights that can drive decision-making in drug development.
Be a champion of FAIR principles and promote the adoption of data-driven approaches in the company
Stay updated with the latest advancements in data science and computational chemistry/biology to continuously improve methodologies and tools
Monitor and optimize the performance of data science operations to ensure efficiency and effectiveness.
Job requirements
PhD (or equivalent) in Computational/Medicinal Chemistry or related discipline.
Innovative leader with the ability to challenge the status quo and implement new ML/AI tools into the drug discovery workflow
7 + years industry experience turning modelling insights into optimized small molecule leads.
Deep expertise in structure-based design, cheminformatics, free-energy methods, and modern DL/transformer architectures.
Demonstrated record of peer-reviewed publications, and software/tool creation
Proven ability to start with nothing: evaluate tools, set budgets, set processes and hire talent.
Practical coding/automation mindset (Python, workflow engines, cloud).
Inclusive leadership style and the communication to align a cross-functional team.
